Normandy has a rugged splendour and a rich history. Its dramatic coastal landscapes, pebbly beaches and quiet pastoral villages have provided the backdrop for many of history’s great events. From the Normal invasion of England in 1066 to the D-Day landings of 1944, this region’s rich and fascinating past will be brought vividly to life as part of our Normandy Tour.
We will take you on a journey where you will explore the Normandy Landings at Omaha Beach, Utah Beach, Juno Beach, Sword Beach and Gold Beach before visiting the American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-mer. There, you will hear stories of courage and heroism in the face of adversity from our qualified Normandy guide. Listen to the amazing tale of bravery and cunning of Private John Steele, made famous in the film “The Longest Day”.
For lunch, we will take you to the finest restaurants where you can indulge in local specialities such as Camembert, cider and cream-rich cuisine. Sample the very freshest fish and seafood for which this region of France is famous the world over. In the afternoon, your guide will accompany you to view the spectacular Bayeux Tapestry, which depicts the events leading up to the Norman Conquest of England in 1066. The medieval town of Bayeux was the first to be liberated in the Battle of Normandy after D-Day in 1944 and survived the whole of WWII almost unscathed.
